Almost two years of learning and contributing to QUALITY improvements. I always wanted to work in an organization that treats the employee as an asset and works on innovation to support the growing technologies all around us.

Reasons for joining Rakuten and good experiences at Rakuten

With almost 12 years of QA and mentoring skills, I was looking for an opportunity where an individual and a team can contribute. I got this opportunity in Rakuten and have successfully built a team with improved technical and behavioral skills. This team is self-motivated to understand the organization’s goals and align to deliver for them. The change is that the team thinks and performs with the Rakuten goals in mind and not only for the project they are currently working on.
To achieve this, I got full support from my manager and senior management. They are always available to listen and extend required help, whether it is training, certification, physical resources, or appreciation awards approval for team achievements. Appreciation or recognition of great work or process improvement is one key factor in how Rakuten builds a strong and ever-motivated innovative culture in teams and with each employee.

Challenges

I know Hindi and English proficiently and a little Sanskrit. I have technical skills in JAVA, JavaScript, Selenium, Cucumber, Jmeter, REST Assured, API, APPIUM, Perl, Python, and Unix. I started my career at Rakuten with a very challenging task: to do UI automation of a product whose flows were complex, and the UI itself had lots of elements.
I took this challenge and proceeded, and at least four times in the given two-month timeline I felt will not be able to deliver. However, I got full support from my manager and PDM of the project who was able to understand the progress I made and very calmly understood all the challenges I was facing, including environmental, which went beyond handling the script. And finally, with the approval of a new, faster server, where the product was deployed, the same automation worked smoothly and was quite stable.
This has boosted my confidence and made me feel secure and motivated with such a supportive team to help me achieve what looks difficult/impossible.

Career growth and learning opportunities

My goals when I joined Rakuten were to perform well in my new role as QA lead and help the team improve on quality standards and processes. It all began with my self-learning about the product, tools, and technologies used. With the help of team members and easily available training, I completed the learning part and then started identifying the improvement areas and worked on the testing process, documentation, reporting, automation, and training the team for the skills required for each of these. With every passing day, the team and I were on a high, learning and improving processes for our QA activities. I started as team lead, where mentoring and training team members were high-priority, but a year later, team members became self-dependent and started delivering with more productivity and improved quality.
This gave me scope to build my managerial skills on top of the leadership and I was ready for my new role. The promotion process is smooth and unbiased, based on the employee's achievements and readiness for the next role. This also impressed me to do my best and grow in Rakuten.
There is ample opportunity and an easy approval process for training in Rakuten. The most impressive is not only the regularly-scheduled training Rakuten offers but the fact that we can also request specific training which we need to improve our skills to do better in our current or future roles.
