Who We Are

Global Ad Technology Department (GATD) manages the totality of the advertising systems that support Rakuten. We are a cross-organizational and data-driven organization that works in a diverse team across five countries: Japan, Singapore, India, China and the UK.
We develop, maintain, and improve Rakuten's advertising platform and data-driven marketing solutions to support internal and external stakeholders, while also managing our own marketing research and advertising media tools.

GATD’s mission is to boost the growth of the whole Rakuten Group by creating great marketing solutions for our internal and external clients. Our strengths are the vast data assets coming from an increasing number of Rakuten businesses, the talent and ideas of our diverse team, and the latest technologies in the market.

1. Rakuten Ecosystem’s Vast Data Assets

Rakuten Group provides a wide range of services to more than 1.6 billion members around the globe with more than 70 businesses including e-commerce, fintech, digital contents and mobile. With our omni commerce approach, we combine online and offline data into a single Rakuten ID to create a complete and unique picture of each user's behavior. By combining these diverse services and approaches through a common membership and loyalty program, Rakuten has created a strong first-party data ecosystem unique to Rakuten, which is the foundation and greatest strength of its data-driven advertising business.

2.Experience the Entire Ad System

Rakuten is developing advertising not only as a "buyer", but also as a "seller" that provides advertisements to stores and manufacturers in the Rakuten market. GATD is developing the Rakuten Marketing Platform that supports both "buyer" and "seller" advertising businesses.

  • SEM/Feed

    SEM/Feed creates data feeds for services such as Rakuten Ichiba and Rakuten Travel, and links product information to third party advertising products such as Google's Product Listing Ads, Facebook and Criteo. Since more than 100 million products are registered in Rakuten Ichiba, developing data processing efficiently is vital. Using this system, we drive marketing activities and advertising performance to increase the sales of Rakuten services.

  • Rakuten Affiliate

    Rakuten has four platforms for affiliate marketing with different targets and kinds of advertisers.

    • ・Rakuten Affiliate: For advertisers who are clients using Rakuten Group services such as Rakuten Ichiba.
    • ・Global Affiliate Platform: For advertisers who are clients using Taiwan Rakuten Ichiba.
    • ・TG Affiliate: Used by advertisers other than Rakuten, including Rakuten Group services.
    • ・Link Share Affiliate: Mainly used by advertisers other than Rakuten. The main target is product sales related projects.
  • Ad Serving
    「Advertising Delivery System」

    The advertisement delivery system is mainly provided to the Rakuten Group media. Moreover, it connects people who want to advertise in addition to their own media and people who want to accept and monetize advertisements from other media. By doing so, it builds a huge advertising network that bundles the whole of Rakuten Group. In addition to banners and videos on the display frame, it also supports listing ads.

  • Reporting
    「Conversion Tracking System
    for Rakuten」

    A conversion tracking system made for Rakuten that is not restricted by 3rd party cookies or IDFA. It can measure conversions at various levels such as product unit, brand unit, store unit, etc. at Rakuten Ichiba. Recently, we have been working on optimizing ad delivery by linking conversion information to third party ad products using the conversion API.

    Operation tool
    「RMP - For Brands」

    RMP-For Brands is a comprehensive marketing platform tool that enables the acceleration of marketing and branding activities while targeting leading domestic and foreign brands and manufacturers. Thanks to the data and media assets of the Rakuten market, the operation of advertising campaigns, the analysis of sales and content management on the Rakuten market and the management of promotion campaign sales are centrally performed. This allows us to greatly accelerate the PDCA cycle of our marketing activities.

    As an internet research company, Rakuten Insight receives requests from organizations that want to upgrade the planning and developing of products and services. To empower our clients, we make use of our vast panel questionnaire monitor of about 2.2 million people: this survey system can accumulate a huge quantity of high-quality utilization data of the diverse profiles of all Rakuten users.

  • Rakuten as Seller
    「Rakuten Promotion
    Platform(RPP)」

    Rakuten Ichiba users' search results keywords tend to predict the items that same user is likely interested in purchasing. RPP is a "search-linked advertisement" that automatically suggests products that are highly related to the user's search keywords from the products registered by Rakuten Ichiba stores and which distributes them to the media inside and outside Rakuten Ichiba. The matching technology between the keywords entered by the user and related products enables an effective approach to users who are highly interested in similar products at advertiser stores.

  • Ad Media
    「Rakuten Super Point Screen」

    Rakuten Super Point Screen is a point app that allows the user to earn Rakuten points just by looking at advertisements.
    It features a smartphone standby screen and an advertisement distribution that utilizes user location information. The number of downloads currently exceeds 10 million and MAU has more than 4 million users increasing year by year. Utilizing this user contact point, we are developing a business that solves marketing issues at Rakuten Group's advertisement distribution and action starting points.
